Choosing a new phone system for your business and reviewing your telecom provider can be a daunting task. It’s difficult to know what phone features to look for in a new system and which phone suppliers to turn to for advice.

Choosing and trusting which telecom provider to go with can be a challenge; BT is likely to recommend a BT system, and some telephone dealers only advise on one particular phone manufacturer, yet there are many business phone systems on the market that may be appropriate for your needs.

Here are some hints and tips to follow to help you choose the right phone system for your business:

Expansion capabilities
You’ll want to invest in a phone system that has the capability to grow with your business and give you the ability to choose add-on phone features that you may later want to invest in. Find out how many lines and extensions it supports and consider these in relation to how your business is likely to grow in the future.

Functionality
Avoid phone systems that are too complex in functionality. A straight-forward system can make the transition far easier and staff training less complicated.

Finding Phone Suppliers
Get quotes from at least three separate companies. Ideally, you want a company who is able to supply, install and maintain the phone system on your behalf.

Research
Don’t be persuaded to go for any system unless you’ve done your own thorough research. You can read reviews of most phone systems online through forums or consumer sites such as Which?.

Ask for a trial
If possible, ask to trial the phone system on a few staff members before you commit. This enables you to get feedback from them and see whether it provides you with the necessary features you need from a phone system.
