Cleaning the office for a move
Cleaning an office ready for moving
An office move presents the perfect opportunity to de-clutter or have a clear out of all the items which are in your office. Many people firmly believe that having a tidy office space can contribute towards performance, so it may well be a good time to take stock of your existing office and get everything in order in preparation for the new one.
Many offices hire cleaners to take charge of keeping the office space clean and tidy on a weekly basis, but when it comes to a move a much larger clean is required. There are specialist companies available to take charge of the full office clean, or if you are a smaller company, you may wish to take on part of the role yourself. Either way, leaving your office in ship shape is advisable, particularly if you have a paid a deposit as part of your office lease.
Simple tasks to save money
There are quite a few simple checks which can be made easily by you or members of your staff which will save you both time and money. These tasks include wiping down all of your electronic items with an appropriate cleaner before they are moved, wiping or dusting down office furniture and wall hangings and cleaning all of your kitchen equipment thoroughly. If you are transporting kitchen utensils it’s well worth wrapping them up in newspaper or bubble wrap to prevent breakages.
How to de-clutter
De-cluttering an office is a good idea and there are quite a few things you can do yourself to reduce the build up of unwanted items. Firstly take an inventory of all the existing equipment in the office; this should help you to identify which items should be moved and which items should be sold or donated. This task is also a good way to identify if you need to invest in any new equipment.
A few final tips
If you are cleaning the office yourself, the key is to start from the top and work your way to the bottom. Make a list of all the jobs which need to be done and then create a moving office checklist of the products you will need to buy to enable those jobs to be carried our efficiently. Get everyone in the office involved, and maybe even lay on some food and drinks to make the task that little bit more enjoyable for you and your staff.
