Considerations when Moving an Office Location
Moving office can often mean a complete change in location, this might be to do with current availability, finding your ideal office in a new location, or moving nearer to where your clients are based. Defining your location priorities are an important part of planning an office move, but there are some key factors to consider when relocating your business to a new geographical location.
Your Staff
They're the ones commuting to the new location day after day, so it needs to be both convenient and realistically accessible to where the majority of your staff are located. Obviously, it's going to be hard to please everyone, and those that do live a fair distance from the new office location, may require close consultation to plan their journey to and from work. Also consider whether there are adaquate local amenities such as transport, shops, or sandwich shops close by that staff may appreciate during their breaks.
Your Clients
Think about how your clients are going to be affected. Do they visit your office regurlarly? Will a new office location pose a problem for any key clients using your services? It might be worth putting feelers out with your key clients, before committing to the new location to gage their reaction.
Your Suppliers
You may need to review and change your office suppliers and other service providers when you move to a new office location. This may be beneficial in some respects because you can negotiate a new contract, terms and prices with them that are more competitive. On the other hand, there will be some suppliers who you have worked with long term who offer a very good service that may be hard to beat.
Potential Staff & Clients
The new location will need to give you access to a good talent pool of employees, as well as attracting the right kind of client. Do your research on the demographics of the area from a consumer and business perspective before choosing your new office location.
Once you've chosen your new office location, you then need to look at the finer detail of the new office space. This Office Space Checklist will remind you of all the things you need to consider when viewing potential office properties.
