Employee Relocation - 3 ways to protect your staff
Planning an office move needn’t be daunting providing you have put the right measures in place to ensure the relocation process runs smoothly. One of the most important aspects of any office move is the actual day of the relocation. Making sure your staff are fully briefed on what is expected of them on the day is very important if you want your move to have a successful outcome.
1. Brief your staff
Briefing your staff well in advance of an office move is highly beneficial and will ensure that employees remain motivated and up to speed with what is expected of them on the big day. Perhaps it might be easier to give staff a half-day holiday so they are not getting in the way of the move? Or you might prefer to ask them to wait at the new offices to help with the unpacking process. Whatever you choose, make sure that everyone is fully aware of their individual roles.
2. Protect your staff
The health and safety of your employees is of utmost importance during an office move, so it is very important to ensure that your staff remain safe throughout the process and allow your office removals company to carry out their tasks efficiently. Do not allow them to lift heavy items and always remember to highlight any trip hazards and make safe any electrical wiring. At the same time, make sure your office removals company do what they are best at, for example, taping up filing cabinets, boxing up equipment and wrapping computers safely.
3. Protect your business
Make certain your staff take extra care with any secure or confidential documents that might need to be moved across to the new offices, or even disposed of. Sensitive data should always be shredded rather than being tossed into a tip, to prevent it from potentially falling into the wrong hands. If you prefer your staff to avoid handling obsolete data, your office removals company may have a specialist contractor who they can recommend to undertake this role instead. Finally, ensure your employees have easy access to the new toilets, a kettle and a sink. Happy, well looked after staff will make for a much more enjoyable moving process.
