IT Questions to ask when Moving Office

Whether you are transferring your existing IT system and business phones to the new office, or purchasing new systems, you will need to look at the network and telephony capabilities in each potential office space you view and consider whether or not they meet your IT & Telecom requirements.

Building power
Can the prospective office supply enough power to satisfy your technology needs?

Air-conditioning
Does the office space allow for sufficient air conditioning and ventilation for your current and future needs? If you house your own server, that will need adequate cooling to perform at an optimum level.

Sufficient Office Space for IT requirements
This issue usually comes down to 2 main criteria; enough office space for your employees, their PCs & other equipment and server room capacity (if needed).

Communication Service Providers
Find out which telecom service providers serve the prospective office building and if they offer the voice and data services you need.

Wireless Internet Access
Not all office buildings offer wireless internet connectivity so be sure to find out if this is essential to your business.

Cabling Infrastructure
Does cabling already exist for phones or computers, and if so, is it sufficient for your phone and data needs? If it doesn’t, be sure to get this installed well in advance of the office move to avoid any last minute disruption when you arrive in your new office.

Telephone Numbers
Is the new office space in the same geographic area code as your existing office? Depending on your current phone package, it may not be possible to take your phone number with you when you move office. Speak to your telecoms service provider well in advance to see if this is possible.
