Keep the same Phone Number when you Move Office
Keeping Business Phone Numbers When Moving Office
Changing your business telephone number can prove to be a real hassle when relocating your business. As if there's not already enough to think about and tasks to complete on your Moving Office Checklist, it would be nice to think you can keep the same business phone number when relocating.
There are a number of options available to you in order for you to retain your existing telephone number when you move office. These include:
Call Redirection
If you are moving out of the area covered by your existing telephone exchange but want to keep your existing number, your existing phone number can be redirected to your new number for an additional fee.
Recorded Message
You can also set up a recorded message for any one calling your old number “we have moved and our new phone number is….” To avoid missing important calls from customers and suppliers who still have your old number on file, you will want to pay for this service for at least a year, which can mount up.
To be honest, though, neither of these options are an ideal solution because of the additional costs and you will ultimately have to eventually inform your customers about your new phone number. It is far better to retain your existing numbers and have the calls go directly to your new address. That way, you can avoid the hassle of having to inform everyone and the phone number on all your stationery stays correct.
The best practice recommendation for doing this is to speak to your current Business Phone Provider and liaise with them over what needs to happen to achieve this. You should note, however, that anything to do with Business Phones can take an awful lot longer than you think it should ... so be sure to start this process as early as possible.
Consider a VoIP System
Another option, which is increasingly in popularity, is to consider VOIP solutions. It is an effective, efficient, flexible and scalable solution that is worth looking closely at. With a VoIP system you can be moving office from one location to another and still keep your original phone number. There are no divert charges because there is no diversion. And most companies make savings on their old standard land-line phone charges.
