Measuring the success of an office move
So, you’ve put in the hard work, moved office, and most things have gone according to plan. How do you measure the success of the move? There are a few practical steps you can take to assess how well the move has gone. This will help both with planning future projects and getting an idea of how well the move has been received by your staff. Here are our top tips to help you evaluate the move:
Seek employee feedback
Employees are the lifeblood of every organisation, and their feedback is invaluable in measuring success. Create a simple post-move survey asking what they feel went well (and what didn’t), and what they like most and least about their new office. Importantly, give people the opportunity to voice any concerns or suggest ways to improve their new place of work.
Analyse your office move spend
If you budgeted accurately for your office move, there’s a good chance you may have completed it on budget. However, many businesses find they end up spending more than expected, as unanticipated costs, delays or set-backs stack up. Calculate your final costs and compare them to your original budget. Analyse where and why the total spend exceeded your budget.
Monitor business downtime
In an ideal world, your IT and telecoms relocation will have gone like clockwork and your team will be up and running on their first day in the new office. Keep a track of any IT issues and log the number of hours’ or days’ disruption these cause. Check your contract with your IT and telecoms service providers and understand if there’s an option to claim a discount for any delays.
Check for office fit-out discrepancies
Ask your office move team to inspect the quality of the new office fit-out in precise detail. Compile a list of any errors or discrepancies and ask your office fit-out company to rectify these as soon as possible. Consider whether the company has delivered a good level of service overall. Moving office offers a great opportunity to review suppliers – both those involved in the move and your regular suppliers.
