Moving Office: the initial stages
Moving offices can be complicated, not to mention time consuming and also at times quite stressful, but there are certain elements that you can take control of to make your next office move a successful one.
Follow some simple rules of thumb and you’ll discover how an office move can actually have a stress free, successful and profitable outcome.
The assessment
Every business person considering office relocation should first assess their business needs and current financial situation. An office move is not something which should be entered into lightly, it will require some careful planning. Asking yourself what the purpose of your relocation is and what you want to achieve from it, are the first two important questions. Be clear about the reason behind your need to move office, is your lease office space up for renewal? Would you like to expand your company? Once you have established exactly why you want to move, you will then be able to define your needs and create a clear vision of your new office requirements and how you intend to meet them.
The lease
Once you have established what your business objectives are, you can make a start in finding the right premises to deliver them. But before you go out and start looking for a location, be certain that you are in the position to be released from your existing office space. Always check the terms of your existing lease to determine how much notice you will need to give your landlord and what are the conditions for leaving your existing property such as your obligations and liabilities. If you are not sure about the terms of your lease it is well worth contacting a property solicitor who will be able to look over it in more detail and lend advice.
The requirements
Being aware of the basic strategic and operational requirements which you will need in order to move office will help to make the entire process a much smoother one. Before you contact a property agent, make sure you can answer questions such as, where you want to move to, the amount of space you will need, when you need to be in the new premises by and what key features you are looking for in your new office space. It is also well worth knowing the type and length of lease you would like.
