Office Move Tips for Employees
Most companies relocating require input and support from their employees in addition to hiring a professional office removals company. Staff are generally responsible to ensure their own workstation or office is packed away in an orderly fashion so that move can proceed without any disruption or time lost to the business.
Use these practical tips to delegate tasks to employees and ensure nothing gets lost during transition.
Timing
The timing of the packing is crucial. You don't want to be doing it too early as you'll be stepping over crates for a week or two and this may lead to health and safety issues and can also affect productivity. You also don't want to be leaving the packing to the final hour. Make a note in your moving office timeline a week in advance of the move to order crates from your office removals company and encourage staff to pack up their things a day or so beforehand.
Labelling
It is important to easily identify items so that you can unpack everything in their correct location and get back to work quickly. Advise your staff about what colour labels to use and to ensure they are visible on the crate.
Equipment
IT equipment should be handled by a specialist IT relocation company who will de-commission computers on the evening prior, pack them safely, and then set them up at the new office. Make sure that all peripherals relating to IT equipment (mouse, keyboard and all cables) are clearly labelled and packed together with the related piece of IT equipment, as it's very easy for things like this to go astray.
Unwanted items
An office move is a good chance to get rid of any equipment, furniture or items that just take up floor space and you no longer have any need for. Try to dispose of items well in advance of the move so your removals company can clearly see which items need to be moved.
Packing the filing cabinet
Filing cabinets, and their contents should be handled and packed by an office removals company. Most filing cabinets will need to be emptied of contents so the cabinet is easier and safer to move, but your removals company will be able to advise you on this.
