Office Space Layout Tips & Ideas
Planning an efficient office layout requires a great deal of thought and research in order for your business to function well in the new space. Before you even think about a colour scheme and design features for your new office, you’ll need to consider how to configure the new space for maximum productivity. The layout of your new office needs to be both practical and functional – and this means thinking about how your current space works to help you think clearly about your practical and operational needs.
Workflow
The movement and interaction of staff in the space is a fundamental consideration. You will need to arrange workstations, IT equipment and position storage cabinets in such a way so that staff can easily locate IT equipment and aisles conveniently without tripping over cables or disturbing other workers to get where they need to be. Walkways, corridors and entrances should be as clear as possible to allow basic circulation of workflow.
Ask Staff
Involve your staff in the process and get their feedback about their current environment to find out what things work best and what they think could be improved. By getting their feedback, your new office design and layout will be based on evidence rather than “guess work”, and your staff will also appreciate giving their input.
IT Requirements
Work with an IT Relocation Company to find out where any shared technical equipment (i.e. printers, copiers, scanners etc.) is to best located. Make sure you integrate your IT requirements with your office design, rather than trying to accommodate equipment once the design has been completed.
Future expansion
A well-considered space plan should accommodate the changing needs of your business. If your new office is at full capacity when you move in, it’s unlikely to meet any future growth, causing you to outgrow the space too quickly. Once you know the size of office you need for your current requirements, add an extra 10% on for future expansion.
