Ordering new phone lines when you move office
Moving Office & Business Phones
Relocating business phones and telecom services require specialist expertise and advance planning. Many office moves fail to transfer their business phones successfully because they totally underestimate what is involved transferring business phones to the new office .
The common mistake companies make is leaving ordering new phone lines to the last minute which only results in frustration, disappointment and worse still – phones not ringing when you get to the new office!
The first step to surviving a business phone transfer in the new office is to review your line capacity and determine how many new phone lines you will need in the new office. Establish what (if any) phone lines are already in-situ in the new office.
Usually, the existing phone lines won’t be in same location that you want them to be, so they will need to be moved and then tested.
It is important to be aware of the lengthy lead time when ordering new phone lines. Many telecom suppliers insist on long lead times for installation so you need to allow adequate timeframes within your Moving Office Timetable.
As a general guide; New Business Phone Lines connections can take up to 25 working days, for ISDN 10/20/30 days or 5-10 working days for PSTN lines. ADSL can only be added 3-4 working days after the ADSL is connected.
Speak to your telecoms service provider, let them know you’ll be moving office, and if you’re moving because your business is upsizing, make sure your existing business phone system can handle the future estimated call volume.
Many telecoms companies can conduct a busy line study on your behalf so you can see how many calls are being missed because of lack of line capacity. This is well worth undertaking prior to an office move so you can plan your telecom requirements adequately in the new office.
Many businesses do not evaluate their future needs sufficiently – only to find that a few months down the line they need an overhaul of their business phone system.
IT & Telecom Companies specialise in making the transfer and ordering of new phone lines and systems easier. Make sure you use them. They can also help save you money on your phone line rental tariff
