Telecom Relocation Guide
A change in business location will mean that you have to transfer your telephone systems to ensure that you are fully operational from day one in your new office. The telecom relocation process is not as straight forward as you might think, and you will need a strategy in place to make sure that you enjoy a smooth office move, and so that your customers experience the same level of service throughout. Key points of a telecom relocation:
Phone Numbers
A move to a different location may mean having to change your phone numbers. Check with your telecom provider to find out whether the new location is on the same telephone exchange as your existing one. If you need to change your number, you will need to arrange for call diversion so that you don’t lose any communication. You will also need to communicate your new number with clients, suppliers and other organisations you do business with. Use this Change of Address Checklist to remind you of who you need to inform.
Phone Lines
You will need to work out how many phone lines (if any) are already established in the new location, and whether they are in the right place to suit your proposed layout. Many companies move office because they are growing, and therefore find that they need to order more phone lines. If so, what sort of lines do you need to order? Analogue? ISDN or SIP? Phone lines need to be ordered well in advance so they can be installed before you move in, and to avoid any disruption to business.
Phone Systems
Moving to a new location is an ideal time to upgrade your technology with little or no negative impact on your customers and business operations. Choosing a new phone system to suit all your business needs can be a real minefield, so it’s important to choose the right IT & Telecoms Company to guide you through the process and take the time to understand your business. If you choose to change phone systems, make sure your staff are well acquainted with the new system before the move happens so that you can hit the ground running from day one in your new office.
