Things to Remember when Relocating a Computer System
Relocating IT Systems when Moving Office
Relocating computer systems when moving office requires special care, pre-planning and careful consideration. A successful office move will mean that all your computer equipment is up and running quickly and efficiently, so that business downtime is minimised - or eliminated entirely!
Here's a few pointers to remember when relocating a computer system to the new office:
Before you Start
Ensure that all your data on your computer is backed up and stored in a secure (off site) location away from the office move. This will give you the peace of mind that, whatever happens, your valuable data is secure.
New Office IT Set up
Your new office will need to have the correct IT infrastructure (network cabling, voice and data, structured cabling infrastructure) in order for your computer network to function correctly when you get to the new office. Don't leave this till the last minute! It needs to be installed well before the move date (and tested). Contact an IT Relocation Company for advice on this important aspect of your IT Relocation.
Computer Packaging and Transportation
You'll need special packaging to ensure your computer is fully protected when being transported to the new office. Your computer equipment should never be able to slip around inside its box but should always sit snugly. You can also talk to your Office Removals Company, as they will be able to provide special computer boxes that will work really well too. Label all your computer peripherals (mouse, keyboard, power leads) so that you know which items belong to which computer. You can either bag up all your cables together or in individual boxes with their relevant equipment. Finally, once everything is packed up, seal the box(es) securely and write: FRAGILE - COMPUTER.
Source New IT Equipment
An office move is the perfect time to review all your computer and IT equipment to ensure it meets the growing demands of your business. If you need to order new equipment, do so well before the office move so it can be tested and staff can be trained before you get to the new office.
The IT Relocation Checklist has everything you need to know about safely relocating computer equipment to the new office, and will help to plan and implement all the IT aspects of your office move.
